Bai Lu Leads Modern Romance Drama “Kai Dao Tu Mi”
Bai Lu has finally kicked off a new drama, marking her first project since leaving the agency she was signed to for ten years. The drama, adapted from the novel The Last Blossom (开到荼蘼) by Yi Shu, is seen as a move away from the costume dramas that have defined much of her career. Directed by Li Muge, the series is set in the 1990s and follows Wang Yunna, a woman who is betrayed and imprisoned before returning transformed to seek revenge.
Bai Lu is credited under her birth name, Bai Mengyan, starring alongside Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko and Chang Huasen. Peng Guanying, whose character has a major impact on the heroine’s life, is listed as a special star, although his character plays a significant part in the plot. Maggie Huang Mengying also joins the cast.
Filming officially started in Foshan on July 24, 2026. Bai Lu will show a striking transformation, from an innocent young woman with long black hair to a more calculating, composed, and emotionally detached woman with short hair in the revenge arc. However, fans were quick to criticize Wang Yunna’s wig and clothing seen in behind-the-scenes photos and have been demanding changes. Nevertheless, the short hair appears to be here to stay, as it is part of the plot, though production has reportedly agreed to refine the hairstyle.
In Kai Dao Tu Mi, the story follows Wang Yunna, who is left emotionally scarred by a past relationship. Seven years later, she returns to her hometown and meets Zuo Wensi, a promising star in the fashion world. The two go on to become engaged, but Read More she quickly discovers that Zuo Wensi’s brother-in-law is her (former lover|ex-lover|previous lover}, Teng Haiqi. Apparently, the original novel mixes romance, suspense, melodrama, and tragedy, with a murder adding another layer to the story.
